WORK-LIFE BALANCE

Private sector lagging behind in development of work-life policies

The public sector is winning the work-life war handsdown. The findings of the Human Resources/Accor Services survey show a chasm in attitudes to work-life balance between public and private sector organisations.

As many as 71% of public sector organisations polled had formal policies in place. However, in the private organisations, the figure was a mere 22%. Work-life policies were firmly on the back burner among the largest 250 publicly quoted UK companies: of the FTSE 250 firms replying to the survey just 14% had formal policies.
