Pay consortium works on modernising pay in home county authorities

Six local authorities teamed up in 2000 to work together on modernising their pay structures, to share experiences and the cost of reward consultancy, according to a recent issue of IRS Employment Trends.

A key aim of the project was to move away from the national pay structure towards one that took account of local labour market factors.

Across five pages the IRS research:

  • details the work of the pay consortium and its rules of engagement
  • outlines the model structure developed by the consortium which included role profiles, job families, broader pay bands, competencies and contribution-based pay
  • highlights the consortium's influence on pay restructuring at Hampshire and Hertfordshire.
