Survey details

Title: "The 100 Best Companies to Work For 2003", The Sunday Times, 5 March 2003.

Survey sample: A total of 296 companies competed for a slot this year and 201 went through the full evaluation process.

The views of 47,000 employees were canvassed across all participating companies, of whom 23,640 worked for the top 100 companies.

Methodology: Most of the scoring (80%) is based on a 65-question employee attitude survey measuring eight workplace factors - everything from leadership to pay and benefits.

The final 20% of company ranking is based on an evaluation of a company's policies, programmes and culture. A detailed 158-question survey was distributed to all participating companies.
