PERFORMANCE MANAGEMENT

Less than half of organisations have clear strategy for managing performance

Performance management is seen as very important by the vast majority of organisations surveyed by IRS, but less than half have a clear strategy for managing performance and just under a third say they have a performance culture.

The survey of 49 employers found that 48% have a clear, systematic strategy underpinned by a formal policy, while slightly fewer (42%) adopt a "general approach with some policies".

Goal-setting policies

IRS discovered that senior management plays the lead role in setting goals. Interestingly, just a quarter of surveyed organisations (27%) involve their HR or personnel function.
