Government considering “high pay inquiry”, says Guardian

A fierce debate within the government on how to tackle entrenched wealth inequality – possibly through a high pay commission – is to be ignited by a report ordered by Harriet Harman, the Labour deputy leader, according to the Guardian newspaper.

The centre-left pressure group Compass launched a campaign in August 2009 calling for steps such as maximum wage ratios, bonus taxes and a High Pay Commission to curb "excessive" pay (see below).
