Gordon Brown remains committed to scrapping tax break on childcare vouchers

Prime minister Gordon Brown has denied the government will scrap childcare vouchers and has maintained the tax credits low and middle-income parents will receive are better than the tax efficiencies on childcare vouchers, says Human Resources magazine.

The government has outlined plans to scrap tax and national insurance contribution exemptions for childcare vouchers provided by an employer. Instead, it intends to offer free childcare for 250,000 two-year-olds, the prime minister announced at the Labour Party conference in Brighton on 29 September 2009. Further details of the changes will be announced in the pre-budget speech in November 2009.
