Flexible benefits is key to attracting staff

Seven in ten employees would prefer to work for an organisation which can offer a choice of benefits rather than a fixed package, according to a new survey by employee benefit specialists Youatwork.

The survey of 1,000 employees across the UK found that nearly two-thirds of workers (63%) would like more control and choice over the benefits they are offered.

Customised packages

The Youatwork research highlights the benefits that are really valued by employees at different stages in their careers or in different locations across the country. Two-thirds of workers (67%) would like to change their benefits to suit their own lifestyles. Increasingly, they would prefer a diverse range of products and services according to their age and job location.

Workers in Greater London are by far the "most demanding" workers in the country:

  • 69% of workers in this region would like more control and choice of the benefits they are given, compared to 49% in the East Midlands
  • 76% of Londoners would rather work for a company that offered a choice of benefits, a greater proportion of workers than any other region surveyed.

A final word

"While employees still want the comfort of benefits which will be realised in the long-term, there is increasing demand for material incentives that reflect individual lifestyles. Offering this level of control and choice to staff not only creates a competitive advantage for the employer, but helps to boost morale and loyalty amongst employees." - Gerry Callaghan, managing director, Youatwork.
