Changing times for executive pay? – PwC

A series of consultation papers covering executive pay, employee representation, corporate governance and responsible business is on the UK political agenda, but the government will need to move quickly if any proposed changes are to affect company AGMs in 2018, according to PwC. In a paper, the firm outlines a series of likely proposals, covering more binding votes on executive pay, pay ratio disclosure, employee representation and pay structures.

For example, on the latter, PwC suggests that there is a rationale suggesting executive pay is too complex and, in its current form, encourages short-term behaviour to the detriment of the economy. Possible approaches might include the encouragement of simpler pay plans that focus on company strategy, together with further focus on long-term shareholding extending beyond an executive’s retirement.
