Our story
October 1999 - e-reward launched
Did you know e-reward.co.uk was the UK’s first web site dedicated solely to reward management?
Launched in October 1999 by Michael Armstrong and Paul Thompson, it is now widely recognised as the UK's most comprehensive, popular and innovative reward web site. Quite simply, e-reward.co.uk is a unique source of expertise and up-to-the-minute information on a wide variety of reward topics. And it’s still completely free.
The Infomation centre is the most useful starting point for browsing the contents of our site.
June 2002 - New research programme unveiled
In June 2002, e-reward launched its ongoing original research programme. Its purpose is to advance the theory and practice of reward management among UK practitioners and others with an interest in how employees are rewarded at work. On a practical level, this research offers so much more. We see it as your own up-to-date instruction manual to a better way to work in reward.
Our research findings are published, in full, in a series of monthly research reports. This extensive body of research comprises a collection of case studies, surveys and toolkits on contemporary reward issues. Often proclaimed as "the answers we’ve been looking for", they provide high-quality information and advice in an easy-to-read format.
Solutions and ready-to-apply techniques are always highlighted and they’re researched and written by the team at e-reward. These highly praised reports are available on paid-subscription only. To find out more visit the 'Research report zone'
September 2002 - E-reward.co.uk wins five-star rating
E-reward.co.uk was awarded the top five-star rating by the Emerald Management web site in its review of the best of the web in 2002. According to the reviewers, e-reward.co.uk is "attractive, current and easy to navigate, presents insightful advice, analysis and research on all aspects of compensation and benefits". Emerald publishes the world's widest range of management and library and information services journals.
February 2006 - The Reward Quarter launched
The first issue of our new quarterly journal was published, as part of our commitment to providing you with clear analysis and practical insights into the reward issues of the day. Packed with short readable articles, to-the-point advice and quick tips, we hope it will become one of your favourite reward management reads. The Reward Quarter is easy to dip in and out of, so keep it on hand for a coffee break or when you need a bit of inspiration.
Best of all, it’s completely free of charge and is available in PDF format to all those on our mailing list.
Today
More than 7,500 reward specialists and HR professionals with an interest in reward now subscribe to our web site service and receive our free email newsletter, e-reward bites, and our quarterly magazine, The Reward Quarter. A half of these subscribers are employed at manager of director level. We are pretty confident that we have the largest email database of reward managers in the UK.
The team
We’re very fortunate. Michael Armstrong and Paul Thompson spend every minute of their working lives studying and researching reward issues. It’s a subject we’re truly passionate about. In fact, it has absorbed us both for a lifetime. A few years ago, we both realised there was an enormous lack of support for the busy pay practitioner. E-reward was designed to fill this gap. Our mission is to put a smile on your face by taking the toil out of the work you do.
We’ll bring you all the latest thinking in reward management and give you our thoughts and guidance on all the issues of the day. We’ll help you improve your knowledge and understanding, and form intelligent views and opinions - so you can get on with achieving everything you want and deserve at work. We’ll give you all the tools you need at your fingertips.
We do make a charge for some things (well, we’ve got to pay our bills and cover costs somehow) but the majority of what we provide is absolutely free!
Michael Armstrong
Michael is one of Britain’s best known and prolific management authors, with titles on reward strategy, paying for contribution, job evaluation, performance management and employee reward. He has vast experience both as an HR practitioner and a consultant, and he is a Companion of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development.
Paul Thompson
Paul spent 13 years working in the reward field at pay analysts Industrial Relations Services. Between 1993 and 1999, as editor of the Pay and Benefits Bulletin, he made a major contribution to the quality and high reputation of one of the foremost journals in the field. Paul has completed many major research projects on reward management and total reward. Email: paul@e-reward.co.uk
